The systems integration lab is a multidisciplinary research environment that focuses on integrating and testing the many different parts and subsystems that comprise a modern drone system.

The Lab is situated at the SDU UAS Test Center in HCA Airport and has access to a 2200 Sqm hangar, a composite materials lab and an 880 Square kilometer drone airspace right outside the Hangar gate.

Its mission is to provide a flexible and well-equipped work environment for researchers and companies to come together to test and integrate mechanical, electronical and software subsystems into to coherent and safe drone systems.

 

The Systems Integration Lab workshop has 3 main sections; Electronics, Mechanics and Software/Simulation.

ElectronicsDrone_motioncapture

The electronics section is mainly focused on final assembly, testing and debugging of microelectronics. It has state of the art electronics test equipment for analog-., digital- and radio signals and is equipped with ESD-safe electronic workstations with advanced soldering, inspection and rework abilities.

The electronics section also has basic provisions for prototyping of microelectronics.

Mechanical

The mechanical section is focused on designing and rapid prototyping of smaller mechanical parts used on drones and payloads. It is equipped with SOA measuring and rapid prototyping equipment; such as 3D scanners and printers. It is also equipped to do basic machined parts in plastics and soft metals by way of CNC-machining and Laser cutting as well as manual machining in plastics and soft metals.

The mechanics section is closely aligned with the Composite Materials Lab. And can draw on its resources and knowledge in creating composite parts.

Software/Simulation

The software/simulation section focuses on development, bugfixing, data acquisition, processing, simulation and testing aspects of drone systems integration. It is equipped with sufficient processing and storage capabilities to be able to crunch large datasets and run simulations in efficient manner. Its is also equipped with workstations and tools for embedded software development and debugging.

The software and simulation section will have access to a 3D tracking system that will be installed in the hangar. This makes it possible to accurately track and navigate smaller drones inside the 2200 sqm hangar space.
